To register and pay for Bertrand, run the Register program that accompanies it. The output of this program is used by the company with which I have contracted to collect and process payments for Bertrand: Kagi Shareware, which is located in Berkeley California.
In the Register program, enter your name, e-mail address and/or postal address, and the number of single-user licenses you desire; alternately, you may indicate that you wish to purchase a site license or world license. At present, Bertrand costs only $30 USD for a single-user license, $400 USD for a multiple-user site license covering all locations within a 100-mile (160-kilometer) radius of your institution, and $1600 USD for a multiple-user world-wide license. "Multiple-user" applies to those (and only those) who are officially associated with your institution, for as long as they are so associated (and no longer).
IMPORTANT: in order to receive the correct registration code to input into your copy of Bertrand, and thereby to enable its Save and Print functions, you must enter the ID number of your copy of Bertrand into the Register program by clicking on the "ID" icon just under the e-mail address entry field. The ID number of your copy of Bertrand is displayed in the "About Bertrand" window (accessible by clicking on "About Bertrand" under the Apple menu), as well as in the Registration dialog box (accessible by clicking on "Enter Registration Code..." under Bertrand's File menu).
Kagi Shareware offers several convenient payment options. You can pay by cash (including non-US currency), check, money order, credit card, invoice, or First Virtual. Enter the payment option you desire in the Register program's pop-up menu, then fill out any additional information that may be required in the text fields that appear.
If you are paying by cash, check, or money order, you must print out the information you enter into the Register program (using the Print button in the Register program itself; this allows proper bar-code printing), and mail the resulting form to:

If you prefer to pay by credit card or First Virtual, you can either print out the data and send it to the address above, or e-mail or fax it to Kagi Shareware. Their e-mail address is sales@kagi.com and their fax number is 1-510-652-6589. Use the Copy button to copy all the data from the Register program and paste it into the body of an e-mail message, or use the Save button to save the data to a file and attach that file to an e-mail message. There is no need to compress the resulting data file, as it is already small. If you have a fax modem, just use the Print button to send the data to the Kagi fax number.
Payments sent via e-mail are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive an e-mail acknowledgement when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days to process; if you provide a correct internet e-mail address you will receive an e-mail acknowledgement.
You can pay with a wide variety of cash from different countries but at present if you pay via check or money order, it must be drawn in US Dollars. Kagi Shareware cannot accept checks or money orders in other currencies.
If you have a purchasing department, you can enter all of the requested data into the Register program and then select Invoice as your payment method. Print three copies of the form and send it to your accounts payable people. You might want to highlight the line that mentions that they must include a copy of the form with their payment. Kagi Shareware cannot invoice your company; you need to act on Kagi's behalf, generating the invoice and handling all of the paperwork at your end.
Please do not fax or e-mail payment forms that indicate Cash, Check or Invoice as the payment method. Unfortunately, there is still no technology to transfer physical objects such as cash or checks via fax or e-mail, and without the payment, Kagi cannot process the form. Payments sent via postal mail take time to reach Kagi and then up to 10 days for processing. Again, if you include a correct e-mail address, you will hear from Kagi as soon as the form is processed.
If you so desire, you can receive a postcard receipt in addition to an e-mail receipt by checking the box that appears between the subtotal and total fields in the Register program, but note that this will add $1 USD to the cost of your transaction.
Obtaining Your Registration Code
When Kagi Shareware notifies you that your registration payment has been processed, they also notify me (Larry Herzberg) by sending me a copy of the form you sent them. If you have accurately entered the ID number of your copy of Bertrand into the Register program, I can then send you the correct registration code that will allow you to enable Bertrand's Save and Print functions. Obviously, the fastest way for me to send you your registration code is by e-mail; if you have an e-mail address, be sure to include it when you enter information into the Register program. If you do not have an e-mail address, or prefer to receive the registration code by postal mail, you of course must enter a postal address into the Register program.
